Does Dallas pick up bulk trash? The 2026 rules explained
The City of Dallas picks up brush and bulky trash at the curb once a month, but there are limits on size, timing and what it will take. Here is how it works and when it makes more sense to hire a hauler.
How Dallas bulk trash pickup works
Dallas Sanitation collects brush and bulky trash at the curb once a month for residential customers. Each home can set out up to 10 cubic yards per collection.
- When to set it out: Thursday through Sunday before your collection week. Check the city's collection calendar for your week.
- Where: just behind the curb in front of your home, not in the street, on the sidewalk, in the alley or in the side yard.
- Clearance: at least 5 feet from roll carts, mailboxes and fire hydrants, and away from low limbs and power lines.
- Brush: limbs no more than 8 inches across or 10 feet long. Grass and leaves must be bagged and tied.
- Once a year: you can request a larger pickup of up to 20 cubic yards through 311, but you have to request it the week before.
What Dallas will not pick up at the curb
- Construction and demolition debris, like bricks, concrete, glass, mirrors and anything with nails sticking out
- Roofing material and shingles
- Tires and auto parts
- Dirt, soil and sod
- Electronics
- Paint and chemicals
- Appliances with coolant, gas or chemicals, such as refrigerators, air conditioners and lawn mowers
- Business and commercial waste
What happens if your pile is too big or out too early
Piles that are too big or do not follow the rules are generally collected and billed at $60 per 5 cubic yards. Setting items out early, or putting out a pile that is too big, can also lead to an orange tag or a citation. An orange-tagged pile has to be fixed before the city will take it.
When hiring a junk removal company makes more sense
- You need it gone now, not at the end of the month, like before a move-out, a closing or a family visit
- The items are inside, upstairs, in the attic or in the back of the garage
- It is a full room, garage or house, well over 10 cubic yards
- It is something the city will not take, like remodel debris, a refrigerator or a window air conditioner
- You are a landlord or business, and city pickup does not cover commercial waste
We price by how much space your items take up in our trailer, and you get the price before we lift anything. Pickups start at $150 for a minimum load, and a full trailer runs $700 to $900. See our full pricing.
Usable items from every pickup go to the nearest donation center or the Salvation Army, and metal and appliances get recycled when we can.
